Link Tag
The words in the html link tag on your webpage are sometimes weighed more heavily than the rest of the keywords in the basic html coding. So if you want to rank well, you should use your keyword in a hyperlink somewhere on your page.
The search engines basically figure that if you have an html link tag linking to something from your page, whatever it is you are linking to is likely to be closely related to the content of your page.
Search engines and link tags
Some of the engines actually look for keywords in the html link tag and any text in the basic html coding surrounding that hyperlink. What this means to you is that if you can you should include your most important keyword phrases in the hyperlink itself and possibly the surrounding html coding.
Html coding tip
Be careful not to keyword stuff! Make sure your basic html coding, links and surrounding text are still readable and make sense after you include a keyword phrase or two.
Basic link tip
You can check your html link tags and surrounding keywords with Link Manager. If Link Manager shows your keywords below the hyperlink then the search engines will also see it!
Html link tag
A text-based hyperlink is a standard HTML link tag like this one (the example link does not go anywhere).
This link <a href="http:///www.keyword1.com">does not go anywhere with keyword1</a> and
has keyword1 as surrounding keyword.
